'Perks Of Being A Wallflower' Cast Joins The 'New Class'

All week long, we're celebrating "The New Class," Hollywood's latest group of up-and-coming actors and actresses on the cusp of graduating to greatness. Tune in every day this week for exclusive interviews with these pending graduates and your chance to vote for the student body president - the one you think holds the brightest future in the industry. New Class week continues today with an exclusive first look at "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," based on the popular Stephen Chbosky novel of the same name. We've got interviews and behind-the-scenes footage of New Class inductees and "Perks" stars Logan Lerman, Nina Dobrev, Ezra Miller and Emma Watson, so click the video below to check it all out! Of course, "Perks" is just one of the many credits these young rising stars have in the books. After the jump, get a look at everything else the "Perks" cast has been up to in their careers! Nina Dobrev If you're a fan of the vampire scene, there's no way you haven't heard of Dobrev by now though perhaps you know her better as her "Vampire Diaries" alter ego, Elena Gilbert. Her biggest movie credits to date are "Chloe" and "The Roommate," but between "Vampire Diaries" and "Perks," it's a sure bet that Nina's star is on the rise. Logan Lerman Lerman, the Most Likely to Make You Swoon member of our New Class, takes center stage in "Perks of Being a Wallflower" as Charlie, the shy guy who's starting to learn the ways of the world. Lerman, of course, is already well accustomed to the ways of Hollywood: he's got major franchises under his belt like "Percy Jackson" and "Three Musketeers," and has even gone toe to toe against Christian Bale and Russell Crowe in "3:10 to Yuma." Ezra Miller Voted the Most Likely to Win an Independent Spirit Award amongst the New Class roster, Miller has more than earned his title. Looking past "Perks" and his memorable turns on "Law & Order: SVU" and "Royal Pains," Ezra's most powerful work to date is in the titular role of "We Need to Talk About Kevin," the Lynne Ramsay drama centered on the fallout of a teenage boy's high school killing spree. It's difficult subject matter to be sure, and Ezra pulls off the work with the kind of professionalism that shows incredible promise for his continued career. Emma Watson Come on, we don't really have to recap this one for you, do we? "Harry Potter" might be behind us, but Emma will always be the smartest witch of her age in our book! Vote for your New Class student body president in the poll below!

Watercooler: An Open Letter to DWTS and Other Reality-TV Time Eaters

Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli Dear Reality Shows,Listen, we need to talk. It's about these two-hour episodes, the twice-a-week commitments, the extended eliminations, the reunions... all of it. Our DVRS are tired, and so are we. In other words, it's not us. It's you.Used to be that TV shows were once a week, and two-hours long only if they were, like, special episodes or season premieres. Now, it seems that every other reality show on the networks wants to eat our free time's face off. Two hours of Celebrity Apprentice. Three-hour Survivor finales. Four hours a week of The X Factor. Really? For two nights of manipulatively edited auditions? Please. Call us when Steve Jones takes the stage. Or when Nicole has something to say.Honestly, it's like you don't even care about our feelings. Just when we were recovering from that three-hour Bachelor Pad finale debacle - which capped a season of two-hour episodes, fyi - Dancing With the Stars took over like the Greek monster of Monday nights and sprouted another 120-minute head, paired of course by a second installment on Tuesdays. And don't think you're fooling us by breaking things up into two different DWTS "events" like you did last night, ABC. That first hour was a needless clip show of the previous performances, followed immediately after by an elimination hour consisting primarily of clips of previous performances! That's not fun. That's exhausting - and slightly terrifying, given the whole "Nancy Grace nip slip" sitch. So please, reality television, for the love of all that is so-called "unscripted," give us back a few hours a week. We love you to death, but there are other shows that need to be watched, too. How are we supposed to know if Glee is good-ish again if we're all trying to decipher Bruno? And it's so not fair to an upstart like Ringer - even with two Sarah Michelle Gellars, not much can compete with Hope Solo in spandex. You have got to relent, or we may have to do something drastic. After all, it's not just dancing C-listers and castaways and desperate singletons who can get voted off of TV, you know.Think about it,The Watercooler

Puss In Boots will receive a awesome Old Spice Guy TV place

It must be mentioned, Shrek-spinoff Puss In Boots does nothing wrong within the mission of stoking up our fascination with the film.Considering it initially appeared as being a brazen try to milk the surly ogre's franchise for individuals it absolutely was worth, Antonio Banderas' ginger root root moggy remains stealthily building anticipation for his standalone flick.A clip handled to obtain appear like he could hold their very own, i had been impressed in what we'd within the Cannes Film Festival this year, plus it recently got a great-cute motion poster to snare inside the cat-fanatics.The look of that old Spice-inspired TV place will probably be the marketing team's best move yet.Assuming you're one of the squillions of folks that seen people ads (starring 'Old Spice Guy' Isaiah Mustafa) go viral, you will need to consider the clip below at this time around:Puss In Boots opens on 9 December 2011.

Kate Winslet Scores An Emmy

For miniseries Mildred Pierce.... With an Oscar and a Grammy already under her belt, Kate Winslet found herself to three-quarters of the way to an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) last night, scooping her first Emmy Award for miniseries Mildred Pierce. In an evening that brought a few surprises (Kyle Chandler! Friday Night Lights!) as well as a lot of repetition (The Daily Show took Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Series for a record ninth year in a row), the Todd Haynes-directed HBO series took home awards for both Winslet and co-star Guy Pearce, while most of the cast and crew were nominated. But it was denied the Outstanding Miniseries or Movie gong, which went instead to Downton Abbey, with Maggie Smith named Outstanding Supporting Actress alongside writing and directing awards. Sitcom Modern Family did well again, winning Outstanding Comedy Series against the likes of The Big Bang Theory and Glee, with stars Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen taking trophies as Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress In A Comedy Series and gongs for its writing team and one of the show's directors. Talking of The Big Bang Theory, Jim Parsons once again walked away with Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series, while Bridesmaids' Melissa McCarthy was Outstanding Lead Actress in the same category for Mike & Molly. Over on the dramatic side, there was a shock as Super 8's Kyle Chandler nabbed Outstanding Lead Actor in a surprise victory against Hugh Laurie and Jon Hamm, amongst others. And his show, Friday Night Lights, was also the unexpected victor in the Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series category. Mad Men got Outstanding Drama Series and Julianna Margulies took home Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series for The Good Wife. But by far the most deserved award went to Margo Martindale for her astonishing work as a supporting actress on Justified. And we'd be remiss if we didn't report that Peter Dinklage got a well-deserved Outstanding Supporting Actor gong for Game of Thrones. And young whippersnapper director Martin Scorsese also got an award, nabbing the Drama directing prize for Boardwalk Empire. Check out the full list of winners right here.

U.K. pols to quiz James Murdoch further

LONDON -- James Murdoch is to be recalled by British pols investigating the phone-hacking scandal at the News of the World. The MP who heads the House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee, John Whittingdale said Murdoch, who was first grilled by MPs July 19, would need to answer some more questions in order to clear up conflicting accounts of what he knew about illegal practices at the paper. Speaking to Sky News Whittingdale said his committee was "beginning to reach the end of its deliberations," but wanted to tie up "one or two loose ends" by recalling witnesses. He added: "As a final session, we will have some more questions based on what we have heard which we will want to put to James Murdoch." MPs are keen to focus on discrepancies between Murdoch's evidence in July and what they heard last week from former News of the World editor Colin Myler and ex-News International lawyer Tom Crone. Myler and Crone claim they told Murdoch in a 2008 meeting about the so-called "For Neville" email, a reference to the tabloid's former chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck. This indicated that phone hacking was not confined to a single so-called "rogue reporter" at the News of the World, but a routine way of getting stories. Clearly, there are different accounts which we have heard," said Whittingdale. "We have spent some time questioning Tom Crone and Colin Myler last week about their version of what happened. We would want to put that to James Murdoch and hear more about how he recalls the meeting." But before Murdoch, who is News Corp.'s deputy chief operating officer, is invited back, the pols want to hear from other witnesses. These include former News International CEO Les Hinton, who resigned in July after working for Rupert Murdoch for more than 50 years, and Mark Lewis, the U.K. lawyer whose clients include the family of murdered British schoolgirl and phone hacking victim Milly Dowler. Whittingdale said Hinton would be asked about the period in which payments were made to News of the World royal correspondent Clive Goodman and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire. Both men were jailed in 2007 for intercepting voicemail messages. It is unclear when James Murdoch will appear before the MPs again, but there is speculation that the hearing may take place in November. A News Corp. spokesman said: "James Murdoch is happy to appear in front of the committee again to answer any further questions members might have." Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

John Galliano Found Guilty of Making Anti-Semitic Remarks

John Galliano Fashion designer John Galliano was found guilty in a French court of making anti-Semitic remarks, but avoided jail, CNN reports. He was fined $8,145 (6,000 euros), but it was suspended - which means he doesn't have to pay it. He does, however, have to pay $23,200 in court fees for the complainants. Galliano was fired from Christian Dior in March after a video surfaced showing him inebriated, saying he loves Adolf Hitler and telling two individuals that they "should have been gassed." He later apologized and said he was seeking help. John Galliano apologizes for remarks; ordered to stand trial in Paris During the trial, Galliano, 50, testified that he had no memory of the outburst and was seeing treatment for an addiction. "We must not judge a man who for 30 years has been dedicated to diversity, who has been a loving person for all races, cultures and religions ... based on 40 minutes where he was sick through alcohol and medication," Galliano's lawyer, Aurelien Hamelle, said.
